The following add-ons are available for use with the core RealEd system.
RealEd Client
Windows
The RealEd client for Windows provides the following features:
- Direct printing to local printers
- Elimination of Firefox window decorations
- PCI-compliant credit card processing
To install the RealEd client on a Windows computer, download and run the following self-extracting file:
- RealEdInstall.exe, RealEd client installer
During the installation, you may be prompted to download and install Firefox, Ghostscript, and GSview if they are not already installed on your computer.
Mac OS X, UNIX
The RealEd client includes the RealEd plugin, which provides:
- Elimination of Firefox window decorations
- PCI-compliant credit card processing
To install the RealEd plugin on a non-Windows computer, click on the following link within Firefox:
- realed.xpi, RealEd plugin
After installing the plugin, create folder .realed in your home directory,
and within that folder, create file prefs.js containing the following
line:
navigator.preference("extensions.realed.domain_name",
"host");
where host is the intranet host name or IP address of your RealEd
system.
Ghostscript and GSview
The RealEd client installer may require installation of Ghostscript, a PostScript interpreter, and GSview, a graphical interface to Ghostscript. For 32-bit Windows (the common variety), download and run the following self-extracting files:
- gs860w32.exe, GPL Ghostscript 8.60
- gsv49w32.exe, GSview 4.9
For 64-bit Windows, download and run the following instead:
- gs860w64.exe, GPL Ghostscript 8.60 for 64-bit Windows
- gsv49w64.exe, GSview 4.9 for 64-bit Windows
Ghostscript is distributed under the GNU General Public License, and GSview is distributed under the Aladdin Free Public License. As required by both licenses, the source code for Ghostscript and GSview is available through the following links:

TortoiseSVN
The RealEd LMS stores course content in a Subversion repository on each school's dedicated RealEd server. On Windows platforms, we recommend the TortoiseSVN Subversion client for accessing and managing course content.
For 32-bit Windows (the common variety), download and run the following self-extracting file to install TortoiseSVN:
- TortoiseSVN-1.6.5.16974-win32-svn-1.6.5.msi, TortoiseSVN version 1.6.5
For 64-bit Windows, download and run the following instead:
- TortoiseSVN-1.6.5.16974-win32-svn-1.6.5.msi, TortoiseSVN version 1.6.5 for 64-bit Windows
TortoiseSVN is distributed under the GNU General Public License. As required by the license, the source code is available through the following link:

Bar Code Scanner Configuration
Bar code scanners used with RealEd require a one-time configuration process using the following file:
- Scanner.cfg, scanner configuration file
